Shalom Tidings magazine, Shalom World TV win several prizes in prestigious Catholic Press Awards


 

Shalom Tidings magazine and Shalom World TV have once again earned accolades for their merit in evangelizing through the media by bagging several prizes in the prestigious Catholic Press Awards of North America. Both the channel and the magazine won five awards each in various categories.

Shalom Tidings won 2022’s ‘Magazine of the Year’ Award. The stellar recognition was for the Professional and Special-Interest Magazines category, which includes Clergy, Religious, Prayer and Spiritual Magazines. It received this top honor for being a “marvellously put together magazine full of useful guidance and spiritual experiences written in short, easy to read articles” as per the remarks of the judges.

The magazine also clinched a third prize for the Best Single Ad Campaign with Publication. It was the Christmas theme advertisement ‘God With Us’ that fetched the third prize. Judges noted that the “Manger scene in the centre of the ad was bright and eye-catching. The ad clearly stated what Shalom World was for and what it could offer to people. They also used the logos of streaming/TV companies to let people know how they could access it.”

Shalom Tidings also won an Honorable Mention in the Best Promotional House Advertisement category. It also received Honorable Mentions in categories such as Best Regular Column-Family Life and Best Reporting on Vocations to Priesthood, Religious Life or Diaconate.

Shalom World bagged first place in the Best Freestanding Presentation of Online Video-Depiction of Religious Life. It was all about a young priest Fr David Michael Moses. In its evaluation, the jury said, “The outstanding production values and intimate dive into one man’s vocational journey recommend this for first place.”

The channel secured an Honorable Mention in the Best Freestanding Presentation of Online Video-Feature category. It was the episode on ‘An Astronaut’s Faith-Dr Thomas G Jones’ that fetched the recognition.

In the Best Freestanding Presentation of Online Video-Panel Discussion category, Shalom World’s ‘Family-Why Get Married?’ came third in the awards. Its producer was Mesmin Santhosh and the creative producer was Robin Varghese. Ranjith Jimmy was the editor and graphics were handled by Arun Kumar P. Akhil K Jose was the colorist. Linto Davis and Thomas Mathew handled the audio. The jury said, “The producer asks tough questions and explores what would seem like an obvious question, Why? Get Married! However, the producing team does a fantastic job at exploring a sensitive and complicated topic through a simple yet powerful technique, compelling conversations with real-life couples”.

In the Best Multimedia Package-Seasonal Issue category, Shalom World’s ‘God With Us’-Christmas Season came second. The jury said, “These Christmas resources are distinctive, creative and heart-warming, focusing on children’s and families’ experience of the season. The videos and animations are high quality and cohesive.”  In the Best Multimedia Package Series, Shalom World’s ‘Mary My Mother’ found an honorable Mention.

The Catholic Press Awards are given by the Catholic Press Association, an organization comprising Catholic media professionals and publishers in North America founded in 1911. The Catholic Press Awards are the most significant among the various recognitions and they are given to recognize and encourage strong media interventions to invigorate the growth of the Church.
